We are trained in: Cognitive Therapy, behavioral therapy & psychotherapy. We may use one of these talking therapies. We may agree that referral and collaboration with a prescribing medical doctor to see if medication is for you is necessary. Research has shown that just talking therapy, or a combination of talking therapy and antidepressants contribute to a decrease in depressive symptoms. Interested in a lifestyle change? Research also shows that learning healthy sleep hygiene, exercise and a well-rounded, nutritious diet contribute to a decrease in depressive symptoms.  Check out this video to learn more:

  • Depression is more common than you think, almost 10% of the American population experiences depression at least one time during their lifetime.
  • Depression is treatable; 80 to 90% of people who seek treatment begin to feel better within just a few weeks!
  • Depression causes thinking errors: Depression is not a personal weakness or a character flaw! If you had heart disease you would get treatment, right? You wouldn’t think of yourself as weak if you had diabetes would you?

Recognizing your symptoms is the first step, asking for help is a sign of strength, making and keeping an appointment with a licensed professional counselor is smart. POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER and trauma treatment

Therapists at Inspiring Change, LLC have amassed hundreds of hours earning certification as trained trauma therapists, qualified to work with adults and children using Trauma Focused ~ Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.  Susan Roop has successfully completed the Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapist Certification Program. Therapists at ICLLC lecture nationally to law enforcement, school and mental health professionals and parent support groups about the effects of trauma and how to treat trauma.

What is trauma?  Trauma is a shocking or scary event that happens to you or that you witness. About 6 of every 10 (or 60%) of men and 5 of every 10 (or 50%) of women experience at least one trauma in their lives. Women are more likely to experience sexual assault and child sexual abuse. Men are more likely to experience accidents, physical assault, combat, disaster, or to witness death or injury.

Not everyone who experiences trauma will have PTSD. People without PTSD often develop trauma symptoms that effect their daily functioning, especially their ability to interact in a healthful manner in relationships with others. Trauma survivors often believe that they are unworthy of being loved, that getting close to others is dangerous and that they will never experience true and lasting genuine love.

You might have PTSD if you were:

Directly exposed to the trauma as a victim or a witness

Seriously hurt during the event

Went through a trauma that was long-lasting or very severe

Believed that you were in danger

Believed that a family member was in danger

Had a severe reaction during the event, such as crying, shaking, vomiting, or feeling apart from your surroundings

Felt helpless during the trauma and were not able to help yourself or a loved one
